What is VoIP?

VoIP phones are a type of phone that can be used over the Internet instead of a regular phone network. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP phones utilize voice over internet protocol technology for placing and receiving telephone calls via an IP network, including the Internet. There is actually no difference in the phone itself, as it is just a simplex that receives the call and passes it through the phone company’s circuit network. VoIP technology simply means that the number you are calling belongs to the IP address of your VoIP phone and not to the person who is picking up the call.

The VoIP technology has been around for quite some time but it wasn’t until recently that there was a way to actually receive the voice through your computer. Software called Skype uses this type of technology to allow people to chat with each other from any location with a high-speed Internet connection. You don’t have to be at your computer to place an IP call either. With Skype, you can communicate with anyone anywhere in the world for free. So, how does this work? It is pretty easy to see how VoIP phones work once you know how.

The way that VoIP phones work is pretty simple.

When you send a voice message, the person on the other end will hear it using their digital phone system. They will be able to use the voice message and dial a number that is associated with their name. This is what is known as an unenabled digital phone system.

In previous articles, we mentioned some potential pitfalls of an unenabled digital phone system. One such disadvantage is dropped calls. This can easily be remedied by using the best VoIP Phone System software available. You should look for a program that offers good call forwarding, so you won’t experience dropped calls when you are abroad. There are some programs that will even give you a call-screening feature. This will warn you when any dropped calls are made.

There are some disadvantages to using VoIP technology with your traditional landline phones though. If you are a business owner, then you should realize that there are many things you will have to change in order to take advantage of this new technology. For instance, you may find that your monthly phone bills are rising significantly. This will become much worse if you have many employees. Landline phones can easily double or even triple your bill every month. For small businesses, this can be financially devastating.

Another disadvantage to using VoIP technology with your traditional analog phones is that you will be at the mercy of public switched telephone network (PSTN). When using an IP phone, you will not be subject to this type of control. You will not have control over who your calls are redirected to nor will you be restricted to certain hours of the day. This means that your employees can call you during the night, or on weekends as well as during business hours. The only time that you will be limited is when you are using a public STN connection.

On the plus side, VoIP phones can be used with your regular landlines.

They do not interfere with the sound quality of your voice. They also do not interfere with your ability to make long distance calls or make 911 calls. As long as your regular landlines can handle voice data, you will be able to use your regular cell phones with these devices. It will be very difficult, however, if you have limited or no Internet access.

The fact is that most people today already have very good Internet access and most people have unlimited domestic wireless service.

  • The cost of an IP telephone service will be very high as compared to a regular VOIP phone service.
  • You will also need to have a high-speed Internet connection.
  • If you have limited or no internet access at all, then it may be difficult for you to use your VoIP phones to make international long distance calls.
  • However, if you have a broadband internet connection, you can make use of your VoIP phones with ease.
